HELLO
We are parents of children with Down Syndrome. Our aim is to support each other in our quest to normalize and enrich the lives of our children so they may reach their fullest potential.
We at K.I.D.S. would like to offer you our friendship, love, and understanding at what may be a difficult time. It is not unusual for parents to feel many conflicting emotions when they are told that their new baby has Down Syndrome. Love and joy are often mixed with pain, fear, grief, uncertainty, disbelief, and even guilt. Most of us have also experienced these same confusing emotions. This web site will give you information about Down Syndrome and about are group.
You can read and hear about Down Syndrome, but no one knows the real feelings involved until it touches his or her life. Often parents feel isolated and alone. K.I.D.S. is composed of parents and family members of children with Down Syndrome. It is very comforting to be with others who have been there and who do understand. We welcome you to talk about your feelings, ask questions, and get answers from parents who have also experienced the birth of a baby with Down Syndrome.
Our group meets monthly to discuss new information, host guest speakers, and learn about Down Syndrome.Sharing feelings and experiences is a vital aspect of our group. Some talk, some listen, some laugh, some cry, and new friendships are formed. We enjoy being together sharing and helping each other. This is
why K.I.D.S. is here: to provide a time and place to share ideas, to support and strengthen each other, to increase understanding, hope, and knowledge.
People with Down Syndrome are first and foremost people. Like all of us, they are unique and individual. The best gift we can give our children is a positive self-esteem. As we increase our own understanding, we are better able to give them that gift.
